Google Browser Size – A New Tool

Google has launched a new addition to its collection of Labs tools called Browser Size.

Google Browser Size is a visualization of browser window sizes for people who visit Google. For example, the “90%” contour means that 90% of people visiting Google have their browser window open to at least this size or larger.

This seems much better service than Google Wave.

Google India had launched a nation-wide competition for students to design a Google logo for 14th November, 2009. Finally, the winner is Puru Pratap Singh of Gurgaon – a student of class 4th.

November 14 is celebrated as Bal Divas (Children’s Day) in India. This logo will be live on Google.co.in on 14th.

Google Wave Invitation Please

Google have start sending the Google Wave Invitation to few (read it 1,00,000) early adopters. They have started sending them out yesterday and I wish I could get one. I see many peoples are trying hard to get one. I was not surprised to know that Invites are selling on ebay at $70.

With so much hype and buzz around it’s hard to wait for invitation. If anyone out there can send me an invitation at akajain [at] gmail [dot] com, that will be very appreciated.

Fix: Google Talk and Winamp 5 Hang/Freeze

Recently, I fixed a very annoying bug of Google Talk or Winamp 5 (I don’t know). Google Talk and Winamp were freezing (hang/not responding) when the status was selected was “Show current music track” in Google Talk messenger and same time I have Winamp playing my songs. So Google talk and Winamp 5.x wasn’t working together. However, I saw that this was not the case with other media players. But I like listening to music using Winamp player. That’s the best player available and I don’t want to use any other. Someone suggested me that creating a blank “m3u” file (Winamp playlist file) in the installation directory of Winamp (usually “C:\Program Files\Winamp”) may solve this issue. I perform the following steps and Wow! It worked.

Step 1: Go to the root directory of Winamp which is usually in C:\Program Files\Winamp\

Step 2: Select Tools->Folder Options->View (Tab) and uncheck the hide extensions for known file types and click Ok.

Step 3: Now create an empty file (Right click the mouse -> New -> Text document), so the default file would be like “New Text Document.txt”.

Step4: Rename the above file to “winamp.m3u” and save.

Step5: Close Winamp and Google Talk. Now open again and Your Show Current music track status should work like a charm !

Gmail CAPTCHA is cracked by a group of spammers, first reported by a security firm “Websense”. The firm believes that this attack is carried out by the same group behind the cracking of Windows Live mail CAPTCHA’s earlier this month. Here is full story on blog of this security firm.

Tweak: Google Talk Multiple Instance

Default Installation of Google Talk doesn’t allow you to login with two different Ids from a single computer. But you can run two different instance of Google Talk at same time on a single computer after tweaking it a little. Just locate the Google Talk shortcut in Start -> Programs -> Google Talk -> Google Talk. Right click on the shortcut and go to properties. A dialog box will open as shown in the image below.

Add “/nomutex” at the end of Target string, it should look like as shown in the image and click ok. That’s all now every time when you want an extra instance of Google Talk, click on this shortcut. Easy!
