Logo: XIX Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010

February 20th, 2008 | Tags: , , ,

Logo Commonwealth GamesI just checked out new logo of Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 that looks much better (see on the left). I didn’t like the logo that was suggested earlier and I have pointed it out in my previous post that India need a better logo. This logo seems decent to me and I personally feel that it is worth being official logo for this Commonwealth games. Here is a nice writing (about logo and what it depicts) on this game’s official website.

The Logo for the XIX Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 is inspired by the Chakra, The National Symbol of Freedom, of Unity and Power. Spiraling Upwards, it depicts the Growth of India into a Proud, vibrant nation, her billion people coming together to fulfill their true destinies. India’s journey from tradition to modernity, her economic transformation into a super power … Reaching out to the world and leading the way, even as she enthusiastically embraces all the 71 CCGA nations and territories of the commonwealth to become one and host the best ever commonwealth Games in India. In Delhi. In 2010

While we are proud that India is hosting the 2010, it’s a shame that the logo for Delhi Commonwealth Games is a clear case of plagiarism. CG logos become legendary and seen by the world, and here we have someone copy an existing design and call it the new CG logo for India. The logo I am talking about is a design for Outdoor Life Network OLN which is there in a Logo Design book by Taschen (publishers) on page 247.

It is indeed a pity that we, as Indians, could not come with an original design. The design team should be taken to task, for the world will see this duplication in poor spirit.

Its a good logo, but very bland. I mean, it seems pretty flat. It lacks most modern design elements like color vignettes, depth, glassy transparent effects like a web2.0 design.

By contrast, the Melbourne 2006 logo made all those years ago seems more modern and striking. You can see it on http://www.thecommonwealthgames.org/.

In all fairness, the Shera mascot is a good work of art: http://www.thecommonwealthgames.org/delhi-2010/cwg-delhi-2010/about-delhi-2010/shera-the-2010-games-mascot

Being an Indian I am very proud that such a mega event is being organised in India and everything including security of the players has been plan fully organised by the all peoples. Without their help it is very difficult to organize it very peacefully.
