MTNL Broadband Speed Problem

February 4th, 2008 | Tags: , ,

Lately I have upgraded my broadband connection from 590 NU (256 kbps) to 749 NU (2 mbps). I presumed that I’ll be able to access podcasts and watch videos available without having waited for buffering. But I am feeling like being cheated after this decision. I have always praise MTNL for their Broadband Services, low downtime and good connection. But this time they have proven me wrong. Though speed is formally upgraded (in my account) but I don’t see my internet speed going up. Here is the result of speed test on internetfrog.com

Internet Speed Test

Download: 214,600 bps
Upload: 90,936 bps
QOS: 96% Quality
Round Trip Time: 2 ms
MaxPause (longest pause recorded during the data download): 141 ms

I have contacted with MTNL Customer support on 1500 regarding this issue. They show confident that it will be corrected within 24 hrs. Heck! It’s been two days now and I don’t know what to do. To make the matter worst they have closed the registration and migration to my previous plan (590 NU – 256k kbps). Great! Now I cannot move back to my previous plan. I can’t believe that I am the only one in this world who is facing this issue. I’m sure there are many other peoples who have migrated to higher plans to get better speed. Do anyone have same experience with MTNL Broadband, I am having?

Three months back I had 299 plan of mtnl broadband connection and at that time I was getting transfer rate upto 200 kpbs, taking this into account I upgraded my connection to unlimited being unaware of that this plan has max. speed of 256 kpbs and not 2 mbps. After this I reverted to my older plan and now I am getting transfer speed of 30 kpbs this is very disappointing and pathetic on part MTNL. Now I am cursing myself that why did I change my plan. I REGRET THAT I SHOULD HAVE NOT DONE THAT I REQUEST PEOPLE WHO ARE USING 299 PLAN DO NOT CHANGE YOUR PLAN IF YOU ARE GETTING GOOD SPEED.

MTNL is worst. I recently got the connection. I applied for 512 KBPS, but what i’m getting is on 200kbps connection with download speed of just 19 or 20 kbps. they are charging me Rs 1400 for this service and all i’m getting shit from them. They are real bastards. Please do not ever think of getting their connection.

MTNL BroadBand speed is suspected! It’s very slow. It’s not expected from a big network company. If MTNL listen and SEE this message kindly do something for their trusted customer’s for which they paying money.

I had the 590 NU plan as well and was getting very good speeds of upto 150 kilo-bytes per second, enough for smooth video streaming with almost no buffering time. I recently upgraded to the Rs.999 a month, unlimited plan. I was very clearly told that i would get 256 kilo-bytes per second, but after days of getting about 20 KBPS, i realized that the plan was for 256 kilo-bits per second, equivalent of 32 KBPS. Of course now they won’t let me return to my original plan, although the fault was of the employee who guaranteed 256KBPS.

I will soon be switching to the 749 NU (anything is better) and will post any results on the speed. If it is not reasonable, i suggest some mass action as protest to the unfair deeds of MTNL.

If this kind of customer service they provide I dont think they can survive in this competitive world coz now many company are giving internet services in our country at very best rate and services …

Yes, I have the same problem. I’ve applied for plan upgrade from 256 to 512 kbps. Though it’s upgraded in my account, no change has taken place in the connection. I’m having the same 23 to 26 kbps download which I get at the 516 kbps. It’s almost a month I’ve been complaining about but no step has been taken yet.

These MTNL bhaiya’s are totally illitrate just as our neta’s. They don’t event know how to write a camplaint, they just give compalint no’s. They don’t even have a follow up to those complaint’s. I am sick of indian neta’s, sick of delhi police , sick of lousy govt. employee’s, and sick such govt. companies who don’t even care for there customers.

On the whole this Govt. is good for nothing

PS:Do you considered putting video to your web site to keep the people more interested?I think it works.Sincerely, Terrance Dininger

Yes. This is really giving me troubles. They promise giving 320kbps of speed and then give only 3-4kbps. When asked about the problem, they say that that is the official speed and the internet speed won’t increase beyond that limit. I say atleast they should offer 50kbps if not 320. I think that mtnl is cheating the users and so ask you not to take the mtnl broadband. Try other services like airtel or cable internet.

MTNL is a sister concern company of BSNL and comes under Central Govt… The customer base of MTNL is nearly 5.92 million. And from past few years the graph is going down even if the Indian Govt. is spending too much of huge amount to uplift the customer base, but still the graph is going down and the main reason is their “GREAT SERVICES”. The MTNL lineman don’t have enough idea to configure even a modem and to solve a single complaint they take nearly 1 month or more because the don’t have enough workforce and the coverage area is very big. And when you see the MTNL exchange you become shocked to see their exchange, made of HUWIA equipments, and when you see the AIRTEL exchange you will find Ericson equipments just because the cost of HUWAI equipments are nearly half then Ericson.
Basically they have two type of exchange one is for 256 Kbps and one for above 256Kbps, if you buy plan for above 256 then you may get good response because for that only they use Ericson exchange.
I raised my voice at Consumer Court and submitted a online complaint and found that I am not one who is facing the problems with MTNL http://www.consumercourt.in/broadband/1-mtnl-broadband.html here you can check the details of complaints.
I don’t know why the Govt. change the plan to get more customer and spend a huge amount in ads, the salary of lineman is nearly 15000/-, I think this is a total waste. Customers are very much frustrated from MTNL. If you visit the MTNL exchange you will find many customers shouting on the Area Manager. MY personal experience with MTNL was pathetic and now I switched to another services provider and now I am very much satisfied.

all the facts and obligations are true
i am also facing the dame prob earlier i had 495 (320 kbps) unlimted plan i was getting a speed of 200-240 kbps
in search of more speed i changed my plan to 599 (512 kbps) unimited plan now i am getting a speed of 10-60 kbps
I don’t know what is the damn problem with mtnl
two friends of mine next to my door are getting a good speed of 200-240 kbps
plz do not change ur plan in any case

instead of putting our grievances on such threads its better to push mtnl in front of court
    mtnl sucks

MTNL is worst for ever. They are in no mood to give customer a good service.I have 256kbps plan and i m too getting 30kbps only. When i went to mtnl gallery i experienced a worst experience. The employees are saying the same thing that you get enough speed and said ” Mai tumhe ye fir se nahi bataungi.Mujhe aur bhi kam hai.”
