Lately I have upgraded my broadband connection from 590 NU (256 kbps) to 749 NU (2 mbps). I presumed that I’ll be able to access podcasts and watch videos available without having waited for buffering. But I am feeling like being cheated after this decision. I have always praise MTNL for their Broadband Services, low downtime and good connection. But this time they have proven me wrong. Though speed is formally upgraded (in my account) but I don’t see my internet speed going up. Here is the result of speed test on internetfrog.com

Internet Speed Test

Download: 214,600 bps
Upload: 90,936 bps
QOS: 96% Quality
Round Trip Time: 2 ms
MaxPause (longest pause recorded during the data download): 141 ms

I have contacted with MTNL Customer support on 1500 regarding this issue. They show confident that it will be corrected within 24 hrs. Heck! It’s been two days now and I don’t know what to do. To make the matter worst they have closed the registration and migration to my previous plan (590 NU – 256k kbps). Great! Now I cannot move back to my previous plan. I can’t believe that I am the only one in this world who is facing this issue. I’m sure there are many other peoples who have migrated to higher plans to get better speed. Do anyone have same experience with MTNL Broadband, I am having?

Three months back I had 299 plan of mtnl broadband connection and at that time I was getting transfer rate upto 200 kpbs, taking this into account I upgraded my connection to unlimited being unaware of that this plan has max. speed of 256 kpbs and not 2 mbps. After this I reverted to my older plan and now I am getting transfer speed of 30 kpbs this is very disappointing and pathetic on part MTNL. Now I am cursing myself that why did I change my plan. I REGRET THAT I SHOULD HAVE NOT DONE THAT I REQUEST PEOPLE WHO ARE USING 299 PLAN DO NOT CHANGE YOUR PLAN IF YOU ARE GETTING GOOD SPEED.

MTNL is worst. I recently got the connection. I applied for 512 KBPS, but what i’m getting is on 200kbps connection with download speed of just 19 or 20 kbps. they are charging me Rs 1400 for this service and all i’m getting shit from them. They are real bastards. Please do not ever think of getting their connection.

MTNL BroadBand speed is suspected! It’s very slow. It’s not expected from a big network company. If MTNL listen and SEE this message kindly do something for their trusted customer’s for which they paying money.

I had the 590 NU plan as well and was getting very good speeds of upto 150 kilo-bytes per second, enough for smooth video streaming with almost no buffering time. I recently upgraded to the Rs.999 a month, unlimited plan. I was very clearly told that i would get 256 kilo-bytes per second, but after days of getting about 20 KBPS, i realized that the plan was for 256 kilo-bits per second, equivalent of 32 KBPS. Of course now they won’t let me return to my original plan, although the fault was of the employee who guaranteed 256KBPS.

I will soon be switching to the 749 NU (anything is better) and will post any results on the speed. If it is not reasonable, i suggest some mass action as protest to the unfair deeds of MTNL.

Yes, I have the same problem. I’ve applied for plan upgrade from 256 to 512 kbps. Though it’s upgraded in my account, no change has taken place in the connection. I’m having the same 23 to 26 kbps download which I get at the 516 kbps. It’s almost a month I’ve been complaining about but no step has been taken yet.

Even I approched consumer court and file case against them and its more then 4 months still the case is pending, apart from this i also filed in their website http://www.consumercourt.in/broadband/1-mtnl-broadband.html , I am a lawyer and personally suggest everyone not to buy this, they don’t know the importance of internet. :(
